RECAA: Help us work towards a culture of respect!
It is estimated that in Canada between 4% and 15% of seniors are being mistreated in some form or another. Elder abuse occurs within all communities, irrespective of cultural background or class.
Ressources Ethnoculturelles Contre l’Abus envers les Aîné(e)s (RECAA) is an initiative of community workers, organizations and individuals working together to raise awareness on elder abuse. RECAA’s focus is working within ethnocultural communities, where elders are particularly vulnerable due to language barriers and lack of awareness of rights and resources. RECAA uses tools such as multilingual brochures and non-verbal theatre workshops to help bring its message directly to elders in diverse communities. In so doing, RECAA carries out its mission to work towards a culture of respect for all elders, so that they can live in dignity -- free of exploitation
and physical or mental abuse.
